Mark Johnson, MD, FACS

Dr. Mark Johnson is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He has decades of experience and has performed more than 5,000 surgeries. He is an expert in eye-disease laser and microsurgery and has expertise in cataract, glaucoma and eyelid procedures. In performing the latest “no-stitch,” advanced lens implant and microsurgical techniques, Dr. Johnson uses state-of-the-art equipment at the Center for Surgical Excellence including modern lasers, cataract phacoemulsification machines, premium and specialized lens implants, operating microscopes and microsurgical and diamond instruments.

Patients can rest assured, that in addition to Dr. Johnson’s impressive medical expertise, he offers a dedicated and caring approach to ensure the best possible outcome, attributing his “hard-work and people-first” ethics to his upbringing on the family farm in Spokane, Washington.

As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida and in private practice for more than a decade in Venice and Englewood, Dr. Johnson is a highly regarded ophthalmologist. His education includes a long list of honors, including graduation from the University of Miami Honors Program with Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude recognition. He attended the prestigious Northwestern University Medical School, where he was a candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship and elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society that recognizes only the top medical graduates. He earned four years of specialized training in ophthalmology and eye surgery, was selected as Intern of the Year, and served as Chief Resident at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Johnson was also a Major in the United States Air Force and was Chief of the Ophthalmology Department at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.
